A simple pattern of clothes for dogs with your own hands

You can buy clothes for a dog today without any problems, but even taking into account the almost unlimited possibilities of Internet counters, it will be quite problematic to choose the exact size of clothes for your dog.

The optimal way out of this situation is to build a pattern and sew clothes for your pet with your own hands.

Let's consider a fairly easy and simple way to pattern for a dog on a simple example.

We should immediately note that this version of the pattern is designed for the summer, spring and autumn period (without sleeves and without pants), which in many ways simplifies the process of cutting and sewing clothes, but in no way affects the final result.

The final shape of the clothes according to this pattern will have the following form.

The difference between one form of clothing from another will depend only on the thickness, density and quality of the material from which you decide to sew it.

According to this algorithm, you can make a cut, both for a large and small breed dog by individual standards.

So, let's begin.

For example, we will make a pattern for a small dog of a small breed.

1 – taking measurements of the dog

1. neck circumference (a) – 21 cm
2. chest circumference (b) – 29 cm
3. waist circumference (c) – 27 cm
4. the length from the collar to the front paw (d) is 7 cm
5. the circumference of the front paw (e) is 9 cm
6. breast length (from the collar to the desired length from the bottom of the belly) the length of the product at the bottom (g) is 20 cm (usually less for boys, more for girls)
7. back length (from the collar on the back to the tail) (z) – 22 cm
8. length from waist to tail (j) – 6 cm
9. back width (from the upper base of the front paw on one side to its opposite side) (x) – 18 cm

2 – calculation and construction of the pattern

Let's start building the pattern from the upper-left corner (red dot), as indicated in the photo, by drawing the vertical and horizontal from this point at right angles.

We will calculate the values of all the necessary parameters indicated in the figure using this calculator , which allows you to make a pattern for dogs of any size.

All auxiliary lines should be drawn in accordance with the presented drawing (observing, where necessary, right angles and parallels).

All the main contours connected from point to point (where they have an indirect shape) should be connected by a smooth line, as in the photo.

It is recommended to draw the calculated segments in the specified sequence for the simplicity of building our pattern:

• t = a/3 + 0,5 = 21/3+0.5 = 7,5 see
• h = x/2 + 1 = 18/2 + 1 = 10 see
• p = z = 22 cm
• m = j = 6 cm
• v = (b– c)/2 = (29 – 27)/2 = 1 cm
• k = e/2 + 1 = 9/2 + 1 = 5,5 see
• s = d = 7 cm
• y = e/2 + 3 = 9/2 + 3 = 7,5 see
• q = y/2 = 7.5/2 = 3.75 cm
• f = b/2 – x/2 + 0.5 = 29/2 – 18/2 + 0.5 = 6 cm
• u = g = 20 cm

The calculated value of h (equal to 10 cm) includes an allowance for freedom of fitting. In our case, the allowance was 1 cm.

If you plan to make a product with a thick lining, then you need to add 2 cm to the freedom of fitting. Then h will be 11 cm.

When cutting, it is necessary to add about 1 cm more to the obtained values (along the perimeter where the connecting seam will pass) of our pattern for seam allowances.

That's all, our pattern is ready for this.

The zipper for our clothes can be made both on the back and on the tummy. For these purposes, it will be necessary to add an allowance (~ 0.7 cm) on one side of the pattern.

After our pattern (drawing) is ready, we transfer the drawing to the fabric and make such 2 identical blanks, sewing which we will get a pretty enough outfit for the dog, whether it's a jacket, dress, vest or jumpsuit.

If desired, you can additionally sew a carabiner for a leash on top, as well as add individual decorative elements (pockets, Velcro, etc.).
